Morning DewMorning Dew is Dark Moll's debut album, featuring their original line-up. The artwork used for the front cover was painted by Paul Francis. The original painting had to be reduced to CD cover size, and in doing so the detail of the central knotwork became indistinct. A bubble effect was added to enhance it, and this, plus a lens flare effect, also gives the appearance of a dew drop, evoking the album's title. The colors were saturated a little for visual impact. Text was added using the Aon Cari font. |

The tray liner background was given a two-tone mottled effect, using colors picked out from the front cover painting background. A Celtic design border was added and colored to tone with the background. Track titles, album title and other information were added in the same color as the border.

The illustration for the inside front cover was kept simple, with a color photograph of the band, with their names and the instruments each band member plays.

The liner notes had to be in black and white, as specified by the print company that produced the covers. A photograph of the band was converted to black and white, then faded enough so that text was clearly visible on top of it.

The print company uses a silk screen process on the discs, and works in a maximum of two colors. The Morning Dew CD has one color - green - on the silver background of the disc (which appears white in this web image). A border of Celtic knotwork was added to the edge of the disc, in the same color as the text.

Since the release of their first CD, Morning Dew, Dark Moll have undergone a change in their line-up. Comholtas Ceoltoiri Eireann Mid-West Region Hall of Fame fiddle player, Susan Cross, is joined by Susan Monroe on guitar, Mark Hanks on mandolin and bodhran, and Dave Gilligan on vocals, harmonica and guitar.
In 2005 they produced a demo CD, recorded "live" in Ted McConnell's studio in Cincinnati. The band requested a CD label. A photograph of the band was used, as no cover art was to be included. The photograph was rendered in a rich sepia tone, with title tracks in a matching shade of brown. |
